He was known as Floyd to his friends, but his family called him Butch. These are the things about his life that he wanted his friends and family to know and remember. In 1955 he was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Cumby, Texas and was later a member of the Union Baptist Church, near Sulphur Springs. He attended Cumby Elementary School and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1962. After high school, he attended UT Arlington and East Texas State University. From 1965 to 1969, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Communications Technician, 2nd Class. In 1966, he graduated from French language school at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. He traveled to Africa, Spain and Hawaii and worked for U.S. Naval Security at NSA at Ft. Meade, Maryland. After leaving the Navy, he worked as a computer programmer for various companies during the 70s and 80s. He worked for Greyhound in Dallas from 1993 until his retirement in 2014. Floyd joined AA in 1989. He served as a speaker, sponsor, and meeting facilitator for over 20 years. He loved reading classic novels, murder mysteries and Hollywood biographies.
