Deon was born September 20, 1934 in Provo, Utah. He died peacefully with his entire family by his side on October 12, 2017. He met Shirlene Park and they were married in the Logan Temple on July 11, 1957. They have been married for 60 years. Deon was a good, kind husband, father, and friend. Many describe him as a gentle, generous, and sincere loving man. He loved everyone, especially his wife and family. He found joy in spending time with them. He worked hard to provide an amazing life for them. He always made it a point to gently grab his sweetheart’s hand as they journeyed through life together. He loved sail boating, playing the clarinet, performing in marching bands, listening to music, reading, watching his children and grandchildren’s activities, singing in choirs, and traveling with his wife and family. He and Shirlene had many adventures together all over the world. He could be found on the Oregon coast with his entire family vacationing and creating a long legacy of memories. Deon loved learning. He earned a Bachelor and Masters degree from the University of Utah and Doctorate at the University of Oregon. He also was an elementary teacher and principal, and an LDS seminary teacher; he continued on as a professor at the University of St. Louis, Washburn University, and the University of Utah. He loved literature and was a reading clinic director in Kansas City. He and Shirlene lived in Okinawa, Japan for 3 years as an Education Administrator with the military. Deon had a strong testimony and was an active member in the LDS church. He proudly stood as the family patriarch and taught his family his beliefs through his words and example. Deon was an Eagle Scout and served a full-time mission in the Central-Atlantic States mission. He served faithfully in many callings throughout his life. Survived by his wife, Shirlene Park Stevens; brother, Delmar Stevens; children: David (Brad Lamoreaux), Scott (Linda), Angela (Ralph) Evans, Bonnie (Jason) Bracken and Shon (Lisa); 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
