Bio

John Clayborn Head, 75, a resident of the Cross Bridges Road near the Sawdust community, died Sunday afernoon at the Maury County Hospital following a short illness. Funeral services for Mr. Head will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home with King McCarver officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memoorial Gardnes. A native of Maury County, he was a son of the late John and Mary Ann Roberts Head and had been a farmer and carpenter for many years. On Oct. 18, 1920, he married the former Annie Norman who survives. Survivors in addition to his wife include four daughters, Mrs. Billy (Helen) Davis and Mrs. Sue Crumley, both of Columbia; Mrs. Dorothy Richardson of Millbrae, Calif.; and Mrs. Ann Kelley of Sawdust; three sisters, Mrs. Eura Stamps and Mrs. Zada Stamps both of Nashville, and Mrs. Hubert (Thelma) Coak of Chattanooga; one brother, Houston Head of Nashville; 10 grandchidlren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Ralph Sims, Oscar Simse, Lewis Grimmitt, Jimmy Gray Grimmett, Winford Nance, Larry Stamps, Doug Stamps, Robert Norman and Wesley Benderman. Honorary pallbearers will be elders and deacons of Arkland Church of Christ, Ed Carrigan, Sammie Jones, Willie Anderson, Leon Brumley, B. H. Holt, J. E. Fly, Ewell Fly, Herman McAnally, Steve Jones, Grady Grimmett, Russell Church, J. R. Anderson, Granberry Hickman, Raymond Smith, Roy Jones and Ulna Hill.
