Bio

NORTH LOUP — Ronnie L. Boyce, 74, of North Loup passed away peacefully with his family and best friend, Ernie Morrow, by his side on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at the CHI Good Samaritan Health System in Kearney. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Ord First United Methodist Church. Reverend Toni Nolze will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at North Loup. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Ronnie L. Boyce was born May 20, 1943, to Everett and Leila (Abel) Boyce at his grandparents’, Frank and Maude Abel, farm home in Valley County. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at Pleasant Hill Country School, North Loup School and graduated from North Loup-Scotia High School in 1961. Following high school Ronnie went to work for Bill Valasek and then worked on the tunnel of the Sherman Dam. He moved to Valentine and worked on the Merritt Dam. While in Valentine he met Darles Turney in 1964. The couple was united in marriage on June 26, 1964, at Pierre, South Dakota. They moved to Glen Elder, Kan., and Ronnie began working in construction for Bushmen Construction. In 1967, the family returned to the North Loup area and Ronnie worked at the ordnance plant in Grand Island. Ronnie farmed, milked cows, fed cattle, raised corn, alfalfa and beans. He was passionate about farming and loved working up to the day of his passing. He was always working in the shop on tractors, welding or fixing anything that was broken. Ronnie was always willing to help out others and would be right there with his best friend, his dog, Rocky, by his side. Ronnie was a member of the Old Iron Club. His favorite times were family dinners at Grandma Abel’s with the Denny and Chris Boyce family, the Brian and Michelle Gydesen family, Grandpa and Grandma Boyce and Ronnie and Darles’ kids. He always looked forward to and enjoyed Popcorn Days. Ronnie’s kids will always remember that his bark was worse than his bite, and his heart was as big as his hands. Survivors include his wife of 53 wonderful years, Darles of North Loup; two daughters and a son-in-law, Wanda Barker and her significant other, Mike Drake, both of Sargent, and Marcia and Mark Kuszak of Loup City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Shey and Tony and Angie, all of North Loup; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Matt Boyce, Mark Boyce and Michelle Gydesen and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Dale Gean; a son-in-law, Keith Barker; granddaughter, Laci Lea Barker; and three brothers, Gale, Dale and Denny Boyce.
