Thaddeus Constantine McCaleb was the son of Samuel and Sarah Smith (daughter of Richard Philetus Smith, and descendant of Henry Smith) McCaleb. He was born on the Beech Grove Plantation, Feliciana Parish, LA before it was divided into East and West. His plantation was located about 9 miles from the town of Bayou Sara, near the upper Jackson road. He, along with all but two children died of Yellow Fever. Since no grave site has been found, it is believed he was buried in a mass grave for Yellow Fever victims located next to the Episcopal Grace Church in St. Francisville, LA. Because of time and extreme danger and great numbers, these deaths were not recorded. This information was given by the Historical Society in St. Francisville.
