Bio

Leo David Ross, age 89, of Warsaw, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 peacefully at his home with family by his side following a long illness. He was born on October 23, 1927, the oldest of 5 boys; Leo, Marvin, Charles, Jack & Jimmie, in Maryville, Missouri, the son of Leo Roosevelt Ross and Elizabeth Wollery Ross. Leo became a Merchant Marine at the age of 16, until his papers were stolen and then he joined the United States Marine Corp, where he headed to Japan to serve during World War II. He was united in marriage on June 13, 1949, in Deepwater, Missouri to Eula May Dollard. They made their home in many different states including; Colorado, Kansas & Missouri. Unto this union, 6 children were born; Leo David Junior, Peggy Lynn, Rose Dailene, William Lawrence, Elizabeth Ann and Michael Eugene. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for several years as a depot agent. After the passing of his wife, he became an avid ham radio operator. From 1978 to 1985, he became an over the road truck driver with his son Bill. From 1985 to 2006, he was a truck driver with a lifelong friend, Richard Branstetter. In those years of driving, he was awarded 3 million mile safety awards. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and VFW of Warsaw and a faithful member of the Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae on October 15, 1977, his parents, 3 brothers, Melvin, Jack and Jimmie and 3 children; Leo David, Peggy Lynn and Elizabeth Ann. He is survived by his daughter, Rose, of the home, two sons, William "Bill" and Debbie of Cassville, Missouri and Michael Eugene and Tina of Warsaw, 15 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Warsaw with Graveside services with Military Honors to follow at the Mossy Cemetery near Edwards. Visitation will be from 6-7pm Tuesday evening September 19, 2017 with a memorial at 7pm followed by the Rosary.
