Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent July 1988 John Leo Hegarty, 80, of ..., died Thursday, July 7, at a local hospital. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Mr. Hegarty was born June 5, 1908, at Omaha, the son of Daniel and Mary Nissen Hegarty. He graduated from Creighton Prop High School and from Creighton University in 1930. He married Lena HAYNES in 1930 at Omaha. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 47 years until retiring 1973 as manager at Ravenna. He married Idella MORRISEY, Feb. 16, 1973 at Lexington. They moved to Grand Island in 1973 to make there home. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 378 and the Telephone Pioneers. Survivors include his wife; four sons, John L. Jr. of Fremont; Joseph T. of Windemere, Fla., Michael C. of Oviedo, Fla., and David L. of Atlanta, Ga.; three daughters, Frances Ann Cortner of Loup City, Mrs. Louis (Rose Marie) Palmer of Omaha and Jean Maureen Rine of Beloit, Wis.; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Michael C. of Grand Forks, N.D., N.D., and Daniel R. of Omaha. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
