Bio
Jo Ann Sullens Sembera, age 78, passed away April 12, 2013, and gone home to be in glory with her family who awaits her. Born December 7, 1934, in Rutherfordton, NC; daughter of Homer Lee Sullens (1913–1972) and Marie "Monk" Honeycutt Sullens (1914–1999); wife of Rudolph Frank Sembera (1930–1977). An Air Force veteran, retired from BellSouth/ATT as a telephone operator, was raised in the Baptist Church, loved her family, friends, and pets; and they all loved her; hobbies were reading, Jeopardy, birds, and gardening. Everyone would agree that Jo Ann was truly an angel walking on this earth. Survived by he is survived by six children, Laura Colton (Ken), Carol Leaphart (Buddy), Frank Hugh "Sonny" Sembera (Evelyn), Suzan Dotson, Mary Charity (David), and Joe Sembera; sisters-in-law, Doris Dinelli, Marian Garzillia, and Norma Sullens; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Also predeceased by her brothers, Hugh Sullens and Wayne Sullens; and sister-in-law, Margaret Taylor. Memorial service was conducted by the family at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, Spartanburg, SC. In lieu of flowers, Jo Ann would be honored by having people provide a pair of shoes to a needy child. Jo Ann has donated her body to medical research so that others may be helped in the future.
