YORKTOWN - R. L. 'Blackie' Nash, 87, of Yorktown, returned peacefully to his heavenly home on August 17, 2017 after his short battle with cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Blackie was born on September 18, 1929 in Leesville, Louisiana to the late Abram and Belle Ashworth Nash. Blackie was blessed with a large and loving family. He married the love of his life, Lydia Machac on June 1, 1954 in Granger, Texas at S. S. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Blackie helped raise his four children and one granddaughter with patience, discipline, and humility. From the very beginning, he guided his children to God and led by example with his faith, as he loved his church. After returning from serving in Korea in 1952 Blackie started his career in the oilfield. The oilfield allowed Blackie to provide a solid foundation for his family based on his work ethic, sacrifice, and dedication. He prided himself in the fact that he was able to provide well for his family for over 56 years while working in the oilfield. While at home, Blackie was involved in the community and his church. He was active in many organizations including Knights of Columbus, Woodmen of the World, Lions Club, Catholic Life Insurance and Yorktown Community Hall. Waiting to welcome him home is his beloved wife Lydia, son Michael Nash Sr., his parents and numerous siblings and son-in-law Ronald Armer Jr. Visitation 5-7 pm Sunday August 20, 2017 with a Rosary being recited at 7 pm at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral Mass 10 am Monday August 21, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. By Blackie's request, he wanted his oilfield family to honor him as pallbearers. His men carried him for many years, and Blackie wanted them to carry him one more time for the final job.
