Published in The Sierra Vista Herald (August 15, 2017): BISBEE — On August 8, 2017, Our Lord and Savior, Jesus, peacefully brought to a close Imogene Evelyn (Foshee) Plummer’s pilgrimage here on earth and took her home to spend eternity with HIM. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Austin (L. A.) Plummer; parents, Ida Cagle and Charley Foshee; brother, Herman Foshee; sisters, Eunice Williams, Velma Atkins, Donna Benson, and Charlsie Johnson; and her grandson, Jason Plummer. Jean was born in Knoxville, Arkansas, on Oct. 3, 1922. Jean, like so many less fortunate farming families, struggled through the great 1930s’ depression in the Arkansas-Oklahoma area. In 1942, with her husband being drafted into the U. S. Army during WW II, Jean moved to the Los Angeles, California, area and became a “Rosie the Riveter,” working in Long Beach for Lockheed. In 1951 Jean and L.A. moved to Bisbee, Arizona. While her husband worked for Phelps Dodge, Jean went to beauty school, and upon graduation she opened her own beauty shop behind her home on West Blvd. in upper Tombstone Canyon. She operated her beauty shop from 1961 to 2005. During her 44 years of operating her beauty shop, many of her clients became her very good friends. Enjoying this friendly relationship, Jean looked forward to serving her numerous customers throughout the years. That old saying “Only her hairdresser knows” was indeed applicable to Jean’s demeanor. She would never talk about what her clients would say to her in confidence; she would only relate the many jokes they shared and would share the jokes as she remembered them until the time of her passing. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (David) Morales; son, Gary (Susan) Plummer; grandchildren, Floyd Gregory, Render Gregory, Richard Morales, Frank Morales, Steve Morales, and John Stack; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Graveside services will be held on August 17, 2017, at 10:00 AM at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Jean will be placed with her husband of 63 years.
