Mary Katherine "Sis" Bezdek, age 91, of Abbott, passed away early Saturday morning, August 5, 2017 at St. Catherine's Center in Waco. Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at St. Mary's Cemetery, with Deacon Denver Crawley officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Sis was born November 27, 1925 in West, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Donnelly) Zapalac. She attended the old Treadwell school and graduated from Abbott High School in 1943. On May 24, 1948 she was united in marriage to Harry Bezdek in West. Harry preceded her in death on July 25, 2006. Sis was a Licensed Vocation Nurse, working for Grant/Buie Hospital in Hillsboro and for several area doctors including Dr. Scanio, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Davis and Dr. Pierce for over 40 years before retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. She enjoyed living the quiet life with her dog, Moody. Sis is also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Louis Patrick Zapalac. Survivors include her sons, Michael Bezdek and wife Pat of Dallas, David Bezdek of Waco, Mark Bezdek of Grand Junction, CO and Kevin Bezdek and Tammy Wiley of Abbott; grandchildren, Rebecca Westinhofer and husband Kurt, Mike Bezdek Jr., Edward Pavelka, Lynzley Bezdek and Colton Bezdek; a great grandson, Evan Westinhofer; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Michael Bezdek, David Bezdek, Mark Bezdek, Kevin Bezdek, Mike Bezdek Jr., Colton Bezdek, Doug Pierce and David Pierce.
