Lake Andes - Leonard L. Kisely, 88, died at Lake Andes Healthcare Center in Lake Andes on Friday, August 4, 2017. Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Lake Andes with burial following in Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Andes. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 5 - 8 PM at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Lake Andes, SD. Leonard Leo Kisely was born on December 27, 1928, the fifth of six children in Lake Andes, South Dakota to Barbara Hermanek Kisely and Joseph Kisely. He delayed his high school education to help work on the family farm and serve in the United States Army as a medical assistant. He later earned his high school diploma in 2001. Upon returning from his tour of duty in Korea, Leonard returned to his home in Lake Andes to marry his sweetheart, Wilma Westendorf on October 24, 1953 in Geddes. Their first home was near Lake Andes, SD. He farmed the Kisely farm until 1967, when he moved his family to town and after that owned Kisely Construction for approximately 20 years. He later retired from farming in 2001. Leonard was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He was also a member of the Korean War Veteran Association Eastern South Dakota Post and attended annual meetings of the Vets Association. He enjoyed gardening and refurbishing antiques of all kinds until he went to Lake Andes Healthcare Center in February of 2017. On August 4, 2017, Leonard L. Kisely went to be with the Lord. He is survived by 4 sons: Michael Kisely of Huron, SD, Mark Kisely of Volga, SD, Marvin Kisely of Temple, TX, and Martin Kisely of Lake Andes; Sister: Lillian Gibson of Yankton, SD; 9 grandchildren and some great-grandchildren.
