Lawrence Edward Moellentine, 100, died peacefully on July 5, 2017 in Monterey California. Larry, son of Albert Moellentine and Marie Loser Moellentine, was born in Chicago on March 31, 1917. He was preceded in death by his sister, Audrey Kaergard; brother, Richard Moellentine; his wife, Elizabeth Quinnett; and his youngest daughter, Kathy Dion. He is survived by a sister, Gayle Schmucker; and three children, Laurence W. Moellentine, of San Francisco, James P. Moellentine, of Ocala, FL; and Nancy Hart of Inverness, FL. His 10 grandchildren include Laurence P. Moellentine, Jeffery A. Moellentine, Laura E. Bassani, Emily M. Nelson, Jamie Moellentine, Susan Conforti, Clayton Hart Jr., Lisa, Eric, and Amanda Dion. He is blessed with eight great great grandchildren. Larry raised his family in Arlington Heights, IL. He worked as a precision technical inspector and after retirement moved to Sand Point, ID; Ocala, FL; and Monterey, CA. He savored 'life' and, even in his later years continued to grow displaying his natural curiosity and genuine interest in people. 'Lefty' was a formidable baseball player, a world traveler, and a delightful companion. He developed a penchant for public speaking later in life as well as an infectious charm. He loved music from opera to big bands, and dancing with ladies often topped off with a special dessert was the hallmark of a great day of life. His family was fortunate to gather last March in San Francisco for his joyous 100th birthday party celebration. A wonderful, kind, and sweet man, he enriched the life of all he encountered and will be greatly missed. Burial will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, IL at 10:30am on Monday, July 31, 2017. Published in Ocala Star-Banner from July 25 to July 26, 2017
