Bio

Published on www.lemleychapel.com July 25, 2017 Joyce M. Mapel, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 16, 2017 with her family by her side. The daughter of Dale and Bessie (Amos) Mapel, Joyce was born in Sargent, Nebraska in her grandparent’s home. She attended school in Nebraska, graduating in 1952 in Plainsview, Texas. In 1958 she moved to Seattle and worked for Boeing. In 1960 she moved to Burlington where she owned and operated Joyce’s Drive In for nearly 33 years. She completed her working career at Northern Sales in Mount Vernon. After retiring Joyce and Carolyn spent time traveling the country in their motorhome. She especially enjoyed the winters they spent in Arizona and California. Joyce was happiest when seated behind the wheel driving down the road in search of new adventures. When home she enjoyed many things including her flowers, her dogs, and simply sitting in the sun on the deck watching the birds. She also enjoyed her church family at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Joyce is survived by her partner, Carolyn; brothers, Daryn (Winnie) and Ben; aunts, Joy and Bonnie; nieces, Jeanine, Wanda, Joan, and Jana; nephews, Dale (Becky), and Rick (Gail); special nephew, Raymond (Nicole) Strand. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Daryl; sister, Elaine; niece, Carolyn; and nephew, Bart. A Graveside Inurnment for Joyce will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:00AM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Rachel Wangen-Hoch officiating, following the service a reception at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1006 Wicker Rd, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284. The family suggests that memorials be made to Hospice of the Northwest or the Humane Society of Skagit Valley in memory of Joyce. Living Faith Doubt sees the obstacles, Faith sees the way; Doubt sees the darkest night, Faith sees the day. Doubt dreads to take one step, Faith soars on high; Doubt questions “Who believes?” Faith answers “I”.
