Beverly Ann Dirksen, age 86, of Roseburg, OR, passed away on Sunday, July 2nd, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Bev was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, in 1931 to Dr. Joseph and Rosalind Lanspa. She moved to Roseburg in 1957 with Edwin “Dean” Dirksen, her beloved husband of 65 years who preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia; and her four sons, Michael, Robert, James and Mark. She was the much beloved matriarch of a family that includes nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great--grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren, most of whom live in Oregon. Bev was the “all-American mom”, devoted to her family and legendary for her skills in sewing, baking and crafting. She was a superb swimmer, who competed in Masters Tournaments around the globe, continuing to compete until well into her 60s. She taught countless kids to swim at the Roseburg YMCA and until recently, could be found there every weekday morning swimming laps. She passed on her love of competitive swimming to her kids and grandkids and spent many years travelling with them to events. In recent years, she was an avid supporter at any sports event involving one of her beloved grandkids and great-grandkids, who were the lights of her life. Bev also loved her games of Bunco and Bridge with local friends, travelling, reading and marking holidays with big family dinners. Her family has been left with a huge hole in their hearts but a beautiful legacy of photos albums, baby books and personalized items loving crafted by her hands. A service will be held at St. Joseph Parish at 12.10 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017. (Obit published in the Roseburg, OR "The News-Review" on July 12, 2017.)
