Betty J. Ondrak, 82, of Minden, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at Bethany Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Frank Curran will officiate. . Mrs. Ondrak was born Aug. 17, 1924, at Cairo to Ernest W. and Kathryn (Coveny) Johnson. Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Morgan Wells of Axtell; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ron and Cheryl Ondrak of Westminister, Colo., Steve Ondrak of North Platte, Doug and Cindy Ondrak of Cortland, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Johnson of Grand Island. Additional survivors include 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Betty graduated from Cairo High School in 1941. She married Donald B. Ondrak on Nov. 21, 1945, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. They lived in Cairo until moving to Poole in 1954. In 1964, they moved to Grand Island. She was employed at Redman's Shoe Store as a bookkeeper and later for Schuppan Sales & Service, also as a bookkeeper. In 1973, they moved to Phillips. Mr. Ondrak died March 1, 1988. Betty moved back to Grand Island and was employed at Texas T-Bone as a hostess, retiring in 2000. Mrs. Ondrak moved to Bethany Home in August of 2003. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, landscaping, playing bridge and sewing. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Gelbordt and Maxine Baasch, and two brothers, Merle and Robert. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Grand Island Liederkranz Ladies Society.
