Bio

The Independent Newspaper Serving Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton and Sunol Posted: Thursday, June 15, 2017 12:00 am Marie Rose Remillard Marie Rose Remillard née Malicky born June 16, 1922 departed this world June 5, 2017. Marie is survived by her children Anne, Teresa, Mary, Robert and Cheryl Remillard, as well as her grandchildren (Anne’s children), Patrick and Teresa (Tess) Mulligan. She was predeceased by husband Robert (Bob), and siblings Valda Gross, Melvin, Marvin and Howard (Bus) Malicky. Marie was born in Bristow, Nebraska to Frank and Annie Malicky. She spent most of her childhood in Burwell, Nebraska, with her siblings. She proudly served in the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) during World War II and later went on to achieve her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism at the University of Nebraska. After Marie married, she and her husband resided in South Bend, Indiana. Later they moved to California where they lived in Santa Paula. When her husband accepted a position in Northern California, they moved to Livermore, where they bought a home and raised their five children. Marie and her husband made many personal sacrifices to send all five of their children to college, where each obtained their Bachelor’s degree. Marie enjoyed travelling and was an active member of the Livermore Senior Citizens Club. She also frequently attended local WAVES reunions. Marie also enjoyed shopping (especially for jewelry) on excursions with a friend to San Francisco and elsewhere. After suffering severe medical setbacks, Marie moved to Rosewood Gardens, an assisted living facility in Livermore. Marie lived there for ten years and enjoyed playing bingo, listening to musical performances, and taking trips to local theaters and restaurants. Very late in her life she explored her interest in computers by taking the course on PCs there. Many of the caregivers and staff at Rosewood remarked on what a sweet woman Marie was. Just 11 days shy of her 95th birthday, she peacefully passed away in her sleep. Her children will fondly remember her. As she requested, Marie will take her chosen place in Cottonwood Cemetery, perpetually at rest across from the graves of her beloved parents, and close to the graves of her younger brother Bus and her twin brothers and their spouses, Marvin and Margaret, and Melvin and Vernetta. A private memorial will be held locally for family members.
