Grand Island Daily Independent Saturday 2 Feb 1935 Henry Roepker, 89, Is Taken By Death Henry John Roepker, 89, former St. Libory Farmer, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. J. J. Klinge, 1021 West Third street, at 3 a.m., Saturday, after an illness of three months. He had resided at the Klinge home 9 years and had enjoyed good health until three months ago, when he began to fail. He was bedfast the last two weeks. Mr. Roepker was born in St. Libory, Ill., Nov. 15, 1846, and there he grew to manhood. He was married to Katherine Marie Thoele, at Siegel, Ill., Sept. 14, 1875, and three years later came to Nebraska, settling on a farm near St. Libory. His wife died November 8, 1907, while a daughter died in 1923 and three sons died in infancy. Surviving him are seven children, Mrs. J. J. Klinge, 1021 West Third street; Mrs. W. H. Franssen, Mrs. William Abel, and Anton, all of St. Libory; Mrs. H. H. Franssen of Burwell and Ernest and Mrs. H. R. Callies, of St. Paul, Minn.; also thirty-eight grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. The body may be viewed by friends and relatives at the Kinge (sic) residence. Funeral services will be held at the St. Mary's cathedral, at 9:30 a.m., Monday, Father Heims officiating. A brief service for the family will be held at the Klinge home, prior to the service at the cathedral. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery. ******** Grand Island Daily Independent Monday 4 Feb 1935 Funeral rites for Henry John Roepker were held at nine o'clock this morning in St. Mary's cathedral, with a large number of friends in attendance. Rev. Father Carrol, of the St. Libory Catholic church, assisted by the cathedral choir, conducted the services and burial was in the Grand Island cemetery. Six grandsons, Arnold Roepker, and Robert, Louis, Herman, Edward and Wayne Franssen, served as pallbearers. the death of Mr. Roepker, who was 89 years of age, occurred early Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. J. Klinge, 1021 West Third street, following an extended illness.
