Bio

Bernice Hodnett of O'Donnell was born Feb. 15, 1915 in Buda, Texas to the late Walter James Buggand Laura Shephard Wayland. She passed from this life Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at 90 years of age. Mrs. Hodnett moved to O'Donnell from Austin in 1935. She married Truett Hodnett in Austin Nov. 1, 1935. Bernice was a homemaker and also worked for a while at Miller's Variety Store and Blocker's Grocery in O'Donnell. She was a member of the 1946 Study Club and received recognition for 50 years of membership. She also received the Paul Harris Fellow Award for Rotary Club International. Mrs. Hodnett was a member of the First Baptist Church of O'Donnell and taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church in different departments. She loved to have parties at her home and for over 50 years hosted the graduating seniors of O'Donnell High School. Survivors of Mrs. Hodnett include five nieces, one of whom was their special caregiver and adopted daughter, Eunice Corbett and husband Phil Corbett of O'Donnell; and a nephew. Bernice had numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at First Baptist Church of O'Donnell with the Rev. Scott Hensley and Deacon Phil Corbett officiating. Arrangements are by White Funeral Home in Tahoka.
