Mooreville - James "Sonny" McGonagill, passed away suddenly and went to join his beloved sister, Barbara, cherished mother, Eunice L. Hamm and father, Julian C. McGonagill. Sonny grew up in Tupelo and later moved to Memphis graduating from Treadwell High School and working at the Memphian Theatre, where Elvis would relax watching movies. After serving in the Air Force, he returned to Tupelo to fulfill his love of classic cars and promoting music concerts and antique auto shows. This passion led to several connections in the film industry where he coordinated the automobiles for such movies as "Oh Brother Where Art Thou", "Mississippi Burning" and others, along with making appearances in the films. He also enjoyed participating in numerous fishing tournaments, including St. Jude Bass Classic. Sonny was a simple but extraordinary man with a large heart. You never left Sonny without a smile on your face. He leaves behind the love of his life, Sharon Cox; nephews, Chris and Mike Salopek; niece, Suzanne Chhen; brother-in-law, Mark Salopek and life-long friend Larry Gunter. A celebration of his life will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, 2017 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Sammy Raper and Michael Salopek officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park in Memphis, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Jerry Roberson, James McCollum, Andy Chhen, Austin Galloway, Chris Salopek, and Mark Salopek. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2017 and will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday, May 29, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
