Bio

Romayne Hogelin, age 84, of Columbus, died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Brookestone Acres in Columbus. Romayne was born August 13, 1932 in Columbus, NE to Joseph and Eleanor (Goc) Cerny. She attended St. Bonaventure Grade school and High School. On July 5, 1954 she was united in marriage to William P. Hogelin. Romayne worked for the family business, Columbus Motors. She was the office manager and in that time worked for her father, Joe Cerny, and brother, Dan Cerny. She worked for Spadys for a brief interim before finishing her working career at Columbus Auto Mart for her nephew, Dean Cerny from 1990-1997. Romayne was baptized, confirmed, made her First Communion, and was married at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. She belonged to the Friends of St. Francis, and St. Bonaventures Christian Guild serving as president, vice-president, and treasurer. Romayne was a member of Catholic Daughters of America since 1954 and served as a state treasurer and state district deputy. Locally she served as the regent (2 terms), 1st vice regent, financial secretary, trustee, and ritual coordinator. She was also involved with the WRAP campaign (White Ribbon Against Pornography) as the treasurer. Her life was a testament of her strong Catholic faith. Romayne was an active volunteer. She was a docent for the Columbus Area Art Gallery, a member and volunteer for the Columbus Community Hospital Auxiliary, serving as 2nd Vice President, Simon House, Treasurer of St. Vincent de Paul St. Bonaventure conference, past chamber volunteer for Columbus Days, the Miss Columbus Pageant, St. Bonaventure church rectory, church lector, a long time weekly adoration adorer, and sang in the church choir, and funeral choir. Romayne was a recipient of the Simon House Volunteer of the Year, the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award, and was honored as a Catholic Daughters of America member for over 50 years of membership and service. She was recently honored as the Catholic Daughters of Americas Queen of Hearts. Volunteerism was her passion. Service to others can't be counted by years for Romayne it's how she lived her life. She was a member of the Bakers Dozen Extension Club and the Friday Night Elite Board of Directors Dinner Group. She is survived by: Son: David Hogelin of Columbus, Nebraska Daughter: Lynette Hogelin of Columbus, Nebraska Grandson: Dylan Hogelin of Brooklyn, New York Sister in Law: Lorene Cerny of Columbus, Nebraska Niece: Karen Cerny of Centennial, Colorado Niece: Danette (Mike) Peck of Kearney, Nebraska Nephew: Dean (Traci) Cerny of Columbus, Nebraska She is preceded in death by: Husband: William P.
