CLARKS — Hubert W. Fritz, 88, of Clarks died Saturday, May 20, 2017, surrounded by his family at his home near Clarks where he had lived for more than 50 years. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kevin McReynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Bureau Cemetery by Pierce Chapel. Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of the arrangements. Hubert was born on May 26, 1928, to Walter and Sophie (Schlondorf) Fritz in York. Hubert grew up and attended schools in York and Merrick counties. He married Mary L. Garrett on July 21, 1949, in Kansas. During his lifetime, Hubert enjoyed driving a truck over the road, and then began farming in the Clarks area, where he continued to farm and drive trucks after retiring in 1994. Hubert was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling together with Mary all over the country in their camper. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and family. Hubert is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom and Peggy Fritz of Stromsburg and John Fritz and his fiancée, Chrissy Harreus, of Clarks; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Bernie Niemeyer of Kearney, Barb and John Farnes of Wellington, Colo., and Anne and Steve Niffenegger of Fairfield, Calif.; one sister and brother-in-law, Deloris and Kenneth Dittmer of Clarks; and 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, William “Bill” Hernbloom; his wife, Mary; and infant daughter, Nancy Kay; one son, Joseph Bradley; and one great-grandson, Austin Fritz.
