Edward was born in Burleson County, Texas , and was the second child and second son of Frank Kallus and Rosalie Kocourek. His father immigrated from Austria in 1883 and became a naturalized citizen in 1889. His parents lived in Caldwell, Burleson county, Texas, their entire married lives. Edward older brother, Frank Jr, was born in 1895; Rosalie Lydia was born in 1900 and Elda in 1910. Eddie enlisted in the US Army March 5, 1924 and served in the 79th General Hospital. He was captured by the Japanese May 7, 1942 and was held in the following POW Camps: PW Camp #1 - Cabanatuan 1-2-3 Nueva Province Luzon Philippines 15-121. Finally liberated at the end of the war, he was discharged at the rank of Colonel July 31, 1948 Never Married
