Bio

Thanks to contributor #47247306; Alfred J. Starostka, 50, of 952 26th Ave. Columbus, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1992, at Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Grand Island. Funeral services are 10 am Monday at McKown Funeral Chapel in Columbus with the Rev. Joe Miksch officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at St. Edward with military honors by Crosier Post 226 American Legion. Mr. Starostka was born Oct. 29, 1941, at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, to Alfred and Dorothy (Hipke) Starostka. He graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in Columbus in 1959. He lived in Omaha for 21 years, where he worked for U.S. Cold Storage, until illness forced his retirement in 1990. He then moved back to Columbus. He served in the U.S. Navy from July 7, 1959, to Oct. 15, 1962, on the U.S.S. Marshall, the U.S.S. Grant and the U.S.S. Brown. Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Carter of Columbus; his father Alfred Starostka of Columbus; his grandmother Mary Starostka of Silver Creek; five sisters, Tanya Nickolite of Florence, CO, Kay DeLuzio of Durango,CO, Kerry Carter of Denver, CO, and Diane and Dawn Carter, both of Ignacio, CO; two brothers, J. Chris Carter of Farmington, NM, and Terry Carter of Flora Vista, NM. He was preceded in death by his stepfather and grandfather. Columbus Daily Telegram - Feb 27, 1992
