Bio

Memorial service for Linden Riley will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at First Baptist East with Pastor Nick Lovenburg, Freedom Christian Fellowship officiating. Linden Riley age 83 passed from this life to his Heavenly home on Friday, May 5, 2017 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Linden was born in Lawton to James Walter Riley and Frances Lauralee (Gage) Riley on May 9, 1933. He graduated from Lawton High School in 1951. He attended Cameron College and Oklahoma A & M. While at Cameron, he was an old-fashioned ice-man with Pure Ice Company. He could be seen all over Lawton carrying a 50 lb block of ice on his shoulder. He was never afraid of hard work. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. After his military career, he was an FHA real estate appraiser and built custom homes. Linden and Jo exchanged wedding vows on June 21, 1969 in Lawton. Their children include a blended family. Linden brought Sean Riley (Maggie), Kathy Hodges and Shannon Riley (Gina) while Jo brought Rick Hankins (Norma), Jan Rhodes, Steve Hankins (Teri), Sherri Conwell (Robert) and cousin, Dee Montague (Eric). They raised a beautiful family consisting of mine, yours and theirs. Linden insisted the door always be open for anyone who needed a meal or a good nights sleep. He was a generous man, loved Jesus and his children. He especially loved playing with and participating in the activities of his grandchildren. When the great-grands began to arrive, more fun! He built Carriage Hills Christian Church and put his mark, both physically and spiritually, helping to remodel many churches and putting his artistic touch on them. Linden worked in the nursery and taught two and three year olds in Sunday School. His passion was loving people. In 1979, the Rileys opened The Salt Cellar and had a wonderful time serving Southwest Oklahoma with Bibles, books and Christian products. He enjoyed greeting the customers, telling about his favorite book, “My Utmost for His Highest”, and then giving them a copy. Linden retired in 2009 due to ill health. His memory is cherished by the children, 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Maryann Riley, brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Sandy Hunsucker, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his sister, Sherry Mallow and brothers, Terry Riley and Jerry Riley. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at the Lawton/Fort Sill Veterans center for their love and tender care. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawton/Fort Sill Veterans Center, 501 S.E. Flower Mound Road, Lawton, OK 73501 or to the Alzheimer’s Association 2448 E. 81st Street, Suite 3000, Tulsa, OK 74137-4250.
