Bio
After a courageous battle with cancer, Joan Joyce "Jo" Clarke passed away at her home in Chadron with her family at her side. At the time of her death Jo was 71. Jo was born on July 24, 1934 in Ainsworth, NE, to Robert and Margaret Sielaff. On May 2, 1952, Jo was married to A.C. Clarke. They lived in Long Pine for nine years where they started their family. After making lifelong friendships there they moved to Valentine. She worked there as the Omaha World Herald Distributor. In 1962 Jo and family moved to Chadron where they raised their family. After A.C. retired, they moved to Whitney. Jo moved back to Chadron in 1999 where she lived until the time of her death. Jo was very active in the community. Some of her community involvements included Business and Professional Women, Chamber of Commerce, Beta Sigma Phi, and Chadron Arts Council. She was also actively involved in many other community groups and was always ready to volunteer when asked. During her years in the Chadron area Jo made countless friendships. Jo will be missed by the many lives she touched and friendships she made. Jo was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Margaret Sielaff and husband, A.C. Clarke. She is survived by her sister: Jan Huet of Fairfield Bay, AR; sons: Craig and wife, Deb, of Hot Springs, SD, Benny and wife, Traci, of Alliance; daughter, Melody and husband, Brian Carnahan, of Chadron; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
