PAULYNE (POLLY) RUTLEDGE DAY, age 95 of Las Cruces, passed peacefully in the arms of her loved ones in the late afternoon of April 13, 2017. Polly was born October 9, 1921 in Childress, Texas. She was a fun mother, creative and dynamic, and an innovative artist. A major in Fine arts and a teacher thereof, Polly was deeply moved to represent the struggles of indigenous peoples. She often collaborated with her husband Fred, in both composition and design to create functional art for home and family. In her role as Recreation Coordinator for the City of Las Cruces, she brought her passion for arts and crafts to Seniors throughout the area. As a mother, she instilled a love of the arts in her children and grandchildren, as well as passing along her wry Childress humor. A lifelong member of the Methodist church, she imparted respect, empathy, and perseverance, not to mention a joy of singing, especially from the Cokesbury Hymnal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Alden Day, and her daughter, Rebecca Day Coleman. Survivors included her son, Don Rutledge Day, her daughter, Lisa Ann Day, grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Garen, Tam “Tamlin Orion” Day, Chauncey Mae Copeland, Elijah Alden Copeland, Frederic Zeph Reeves, Miles Day Coleman, Kate Decker, Noah Spencer Coleman, and sister, Nan Barwick. Private Graveside Service were held at Masonic Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels. Published in Las Cruces Sun News April 18, 2017.
