WW I - US Army ======== Grand Island (Nebraska) Herald; Thursday, 15 December 1927, page 4 Mrs. Alice Costello and daughter, Genevieve, of 1507 West Second street, attended the funeral services of John B. Costello, Union Pacific engineer, which were held from the Catholic church at Columbus Monday morning. Mr. Costello met his death while on the second engine of a double-header meat train. Mr. Costello was leaning from the fireman's steps when struck by a passing switch engine. =============== Grand Island (Nebraska) Herald; Thursday, 15 December 1927, page 8 Omaha - John P. Costello, 40, Columbus, Neb., Union Pacific engineer, was instantly killed last Thursday afternoon while enroute from Omaha to Grand Island on a meat train. Costello, who was in the second engine of the train, was leaning from the fireman's steps when struck by a passing switch engine, throwing him to the ground and fracturing his skull. The accident occurred near the viaduct at Twenty-fourth and Hickory streets. He is survived by his mother, two brothers and four sisters.
