http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~neplatte/vitals/vitals1972.html The Columbus Telegram, April 14, 1972 BURKE--Loretta Burke, 86, dies today; rites Monday Mrs. Loretta Burke, 86, a former bookkeeper for the Columbus Telegram for 34 years, died Thursday in Columbus Manor after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Menges officiating, and burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Her body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home, where Scripture service is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday and CDA rosary at 8 p.m. A lifetime resident of Platte County, she was born Dec. 15, 1885 to John and Margaret Finnegan Conley. She attended St. Francis Academy in Columbus and married Mark Burke on Nov. 16, 1915 at St. Bernard Catholic Church near Lindsay. They made their home in Columbus. Mrs. Burke was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, St. Anne Society and Legion of Mary. A charter member of Court Little Flower, Catholic Daughters of America she was a past grand regent and past state officer. She also served as secretary of the library board and had been a member of the Business Women's Club. Her husband died Oct. 21, 1949, and her brother, Rev. Fr. Leander Conley, also preceded her in death. Surviving are a stepson, Mark Burke of Omaha; sister, Mrs. Frank Morgan of Columbus; nephews and nieces, Bill Morgan of Shelby, Les Morgan of California, Frank Morgan of Fullerton, Mrs. Darrell Bermel of Omaha, Lee Morgan, Mrs. Phil Sliva and Mrs. Loretta Hilger of Columbus; two step-grandchildren.
