Bio

Eugene Edward Kruse, 82, Gene or Popo to friends and family was born in Taylor, April 18, 1934. Gene passed away at home with family at his side March 16, 2017, ending a long battle with cancer. Gene was the fourth and youngest child of Walter and Bell Kruse. He married his high school sweetheart Marijo Anderson March 25, 1955, sharing a devoted life together for 62 years. He graduated from Taylor High School in 1953, and was awarded scholarships in five sports. He enlisted in the Air Force and retired after 21 honorable years. During his distinguished career with the Air Force Security Forces, he deployed to Vietnam and Guam for one year tours respectively. He loved playing and watching sports including football, basketball, tennis and golf – "Go Cowboys." He belonged to Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Victorville, California and was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. Gene is survived by his loving wife Marijo, their children Janice Bean and husband Bill, John E. Kruse, and Greg Kruse and wife Emily; his grandchildren Brent, Brandon and wife Heidi, John Kruse Jr. and long-term girlfriend Amanda Dolias, John Taylor Kruse, Mary Kate Behrends and husband Christopher, and Gina Kruse; great-grandchildren Dennis, Shane, Braydon and Shayna Bean; his sister Anna Bell Zwernemann and sister-in-law Bertha Kruse; nieces and nephews Allen Kruse, Ronnie Kruse and wife Nancy, Brenda Kruse, Sandra Franks and husband Paul, Donna Moore and husband Russell, Stacy Kruse and Melissa Wright. Gene was preceded by in death, his brothers Walter and S.L. Kruse, brother-in-law Melvin Zwernemann and sister-in-law Mary Kruse. Gene, Dad, Popo you will always be remembered and live on in our hearts. Thank you for the many outstanding memories. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 1, at 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, 13230 El Evado Rd. in Victorville, CA followed by a memorial and a celebration of life at 1 p.m. at Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 24000 Waalew Rd. Apple Valley, CA.
