ORD — James D. “Jim” Vodehnal, 77, of Ord passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Ord First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Stefanie Hayes officiating. Cremation will follow the visitation. Private inurnment will be at a later date in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. James Dennis Vodehnal was born July 3, 1939, at Ord to Ernest and Frieda (Hrdy) Vodehnal. He was raised in Ord and graduated from Ord High School in 1957. Jim attended Kearney State College for two years and served in the National Guard during the early ’60s. Jim spent his entire life in Ord. He farmed south of Ord along with his father and then on his own. He loved the outdoors and the farm life. Jim was very active in the Pork Producers and raised hogs for many years. Jim was a member of the Ord United Methodist Church, where he shared his tenor voice in the choir and as a soloist. He was a skilled cartoonist and illustrator, designing many greeting cards for family and friends. Jim was a people person who enjoyed visiting and sharing his “joke of the day” along with voicing his political opinions. His hobbies included gardening, animals and bird watching. Jim followed high school and college sports and was an avid Ord Chanticleer fan. Family was the most important part of Jim’s life. He will be remembered as a loving, generous and humorous man. Jim is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Darwin Blue of Lincoln, Linda and John Hoffmann of Madison, Wis., and Merilyn and Robert Lockwood of Lincoln, and numerous nieces and nephews who he cherished. He was preceded in death by his parents.
