Vilas Layman Tabor was born May 14, 1906 in Brown County, Texas, the fourth of six children born to William Isaac Tabor and Martha Ann Gilliam. Vilas was the grandson of Spencer Wiley Gilliam and Jane Raulston. Vilas married Virginia Louis Foster. The couple farmed in Hardeman County for nearly 30 years. Three children, William, Phyllis and Melvin, are known to have been born to the couple. Vilas died December 7, 1969 in Quanah, Hardeman County, Texas from a ruptured aortic aneurysm. He was survived by his wife.
