Married Peter P Eklund on October 9, 1887. Ceresco Lady Dies From Severe Burns Funeral services held Saturday for Mrs. Elsie Ecklund Mrs. Elsie Eklund was critically burned at her home at Ceresco last Thursday morning, April 19th. She was taken to the Community Hospital at Wahoo, where she past away at 6:15 that evening. The accident occurred when she tipped a can of kerosene from the warming oven onto the hot stove. The oil ignited and her clothing caught fire. She tried to extinguish the flames when Mrs. Albert Benting and Mrs. J. C. Lowson heard her cries for help and went to her assistance. The doctor was called who gave her first aid and she was taken to the hospital where she died. Born at Horby, Sweden, April 26, 1859, Elsie Nelson came to America in 1887. She resided at Mead until October 7th, of that year, when she was united in marriage to Peter P. Ecklund. The couple made their home on a farm West of Swedeburg until 1924, when they moved to Ceresco. Six children were born to this union, one son passing away in infancy and a daughter, Esther, died in Minnesota, two years ago. Mr. Ecklund passed away on May 2, 1932. Mrs. Ecklund is survived by her three daughters, Mrs. Edith Palm, Mrs. Elder Almquist and Mrs. Victor Pearson, all of Ceresco; her son George Ecklund of Mead; 16 grandchildren and two brothers, Louis Nelson of Valparaiso and Ole Nelson of Fremont besides one brother and a sister in Sweden. The funeral services were held from the home at two o'clock Saturday afternoon and at 2:30 from the Swedeburg Lutheran Church. Rev. Conrad Lindberg officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
