Charles Clyde Okelberry, aka "Charlie the Sunshine Man," at the age of 82, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at the Sunbridge Care and Rehab Center in Twin Falls. Charles was born June 16, 1924, in Oakley, Idaho, the son of James and Emily Okelberry. He was the middle child of 13 children. He was called to serve an LDS stake mission to the Native Americans of Burley. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany. He married Merelda Steffensen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. His passions were serving others through church activities, including working at the church orchard and Deseret Industries. He is survived by his wife; seven children, Tim, Boyd, Charlene Czech, Melinda (Robert) Johnson, Peter (Jennifer), Sam (Mona) and Amanda; eight grandchildren, Chelsea, Cody, Cohen, Chloe (Charlene), Jacob, Emma, Kara (Peter) and Krystal Watson (Sam); brother, Dean; two sisters, Verda Etherington and Zina Clark; many nieces and nephews; and his grand dogs, Zues and Ellie. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and six sisters. The funeral will be held at noon, Monday, Jan. 29, at Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel, 321 E. Main St., with Bishop Mikey Young officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery.
