Bio

Elma Miller, 94, of Jerome, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at her home. She was born Dec. 24, 1912, in Emery, Utah, the daughter of James E. Peacock and Leona Crawford Peacock. Elma grew up in eastern Utah. She married Alvah E. Van Wagoner. They were the parents of four children. They were later divorced. Elma married Dorsey Miller, and they moved from Sunnyside, Utah, to Jerome, Idaho, in 1946. They were later divorced in 1950, Elma married Alvie Miller, and they moved to Seattle, Wash., where they both worked for Boeing Aircraft Company until retiring. These were happy years for Elma. They later moved to Soap Lake, Wash., to begin their retirement years. Fishing, hunting, traveling and growing a vegetable garden second to none took most of their time. Their garden provided food for friends and neighbors. Elma's father was an expert marksman, and every fall, he and his sons and sons-in-law would take a two- to three-day hunting trip in the mountains near Sunnyside for venison for the winter. Elma and Alvie took annual fall trips hunting deer, elk and moose. In fact, Elma bagged one of the largest moose ever, at that time, in eastern Washington and southern Canada. After a time in Soap Lake, Alvie had a desire to return to Jerome, Idaho, to live out their retirement years. He taught Elma self-preservation skills and the art of money management and investing. He was later diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, and Elma lovingly cared for him in their home for more than nine years, believing he would receive the best care possible in his own home. It was a difficult task but indicative of her love and concern for her husband. Alvie passed away in 1990. Elma continued to live at home with the help of skilled nursing and recently celebrated her 94th birthday. All of her children were in attendance, and it was a very happy time. Elma is survived by her children, Jay (Maxine) Van Wagoner of Mapleton, Utah, LaRue Sharp of Twin Falls, Idaho, Gene (Delores) Van Wagoner of Hurricane, Utah, and Mark (Natalie) Van Wagoner of St. George, Utah. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ellis Peacock, LaVee Watt, Genevieve Preston and Marcell Peacock; and two sons-in-law. The Times-News Twin Falls, Idaho 20 Jan 2007, Sat
