Joshua and Martha married January 1, 1847 in Lorain Co., Ohio. They had 11 children, Evaline, Ellen, William, Seth, Mary, Emilie, Theodore, Levi, Charles, Harry and Orrie. Joshua enlisted on May 2, 1864 in Ohio as a private and discharged as a Corporal. He was discharged from the Union army on 20 June 1865 after serving in the 15th Ohio Battery (15th Ind. Bat Ohio Light Artillery). In 1869 he moved to Lyons, Clinton Co., Iowa and lived there until 1870 when he moved to Nebraska. He applied for a patent on land in Butler Co., Nebraska and was approved the thirtieth day of August in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five.
