Bio

Joyce Marie Varner of Marietta, OK was born at Bomar, OK on July 5, 1933, the daughter of V.C. “Bud” Powell and Mary Ann Suggs Powell. She passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, at the age of 83. A graduate of Thackerville High School, Joyce had been a resident of Love County most of her life. She and Wayne G. Varner were married in Thackerville on March 7, 1959, and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2002. Joyce retired from Weber Aircraft, Gainesville, TX, after working in the electronics department for 12 years and then six years as lead in the seatback assembly. Following her retirement, she then was employed part-time in the deli at Homeland for eight years. Joyce loved watching NBA basketball and being with her grandchildren and her dogs. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marietta. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Aubrey “Hop” Powell; and two sisters, Ealeen Jones and Velma Trivelpiece. She is survived by a son, Robert G. Varner of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Brent Sykora of Marietta; two brothers and sister-in-law, Buddy and Niki Powell of Thackerville and Nelson “Dude” Powell of Marietta; three sisters and brother-in-law, Claudine Monkres of Thackerville, Ann Faulkenberry of Marietta, and Carolyn and Mike Ryan of Plano, TX; and five grandchildren, Aaron, Tye, Mallory, Bailey, and Mandy. Serving as casket bearers are Robert G. Varner, Tye Varner, Brent Sykora, Dale Faulkenberry, Jonathan Powell, and Steve Monkres. Honorary bearers are Alvie Reed and Warner Fellabaum.
