MARY BATLA MIKESKA (1859-1937) Marie (Mary) A. Batla and Frank J. Mikeska married 18 October 1881 in Austin County, Texas. Marriage record filed in Austin County, Texas Marriage Book F, page 501. Mary Batla Mikeska (1859-1937) , widow of Frantisek J. Mikeska, died at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 13 days of heart failure on 25 June 1937 at her home in Garwood in Colorado County, Texas. The informant of her Texas Death Certificate was her son Ed F. Mikeska. Born at Cat Spring in Austin County, Texas on 12 April 1857, she was the daughter of Tomas "Thomas" Batla, Sr. [1823/25-1898] and his first wife Rozina Drevojanek Batla [1823-1896]. Mary "Marie" Batla Mikeska was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Also preceding her in death were all her siblings: her older sister Anna Batla Schlapota in 1880, her younger sister Veronika Batla in 1888, her older brother John "Johan" Victor Batla in 1910 and her eldest brother Thomas "Tomas" Batla, Jr. in 1911. From the La Grange Journal (a newspaper published in Fayette County, Texas), Thursday 1 July 1937: MARY MIKESKA Local friends were sorry to hear of the death of a former Fayetteville resident, Mrs. Mary Mikeska, who died at the family home in Garwood, June 25, at the age of 80 years. Funeral services were held at Garwood and her remains were brought to the Evangelical cemetery at Ross Prairie (near Fayetteville) to rest beside her husband [Frantisek J. Mikeska] who preceded her in death many years ago. Our sympathy goes to her two surviving children and other relatives. May her sleep be peaceful! From The New Ulm Enterprise (a newspaper published in Austin County, Texas), 21 April 1911: CAT SPRING Tom Batla who died here on the 15th, at the age of 60 years, was well known and universally beloved by all who knew him. He leaves a wife, nine [sic eight ] children and two sisters to mourn his loss. This cemetery used to be named Ross Prairie Czech Moravian Brethren Church Cemetery. Her death certificate states Ross Prairie as place of burial, though it is hard to read.
