Marvin was born to Eldon Loren and Betty Maria Dunbar Reynolds. Growing up in Rock County, NE, Marvin developed lifelong friendships with the Swanson boys. Many days they could be found tearing through the Sandhills with their families, never knowing what those boys might be up to. He attended Grimm School through the eight grade and graduated from Rock County High School in 1957. While in school he was in 4-H and excelled in many sports, lettering in track, football for all four years. Marvin served in the United States Army from 1962-1964 and was assigned to the 304th Signal Battalion near Seoul Korea. He received the Marksman and Sharp Shooter Rifle medals and the Good Conduct Medal. He achieved rank of Specialist and was discharged from the United States Army Reserves in 1968. On November 7-1970, he married Lanette M. Schmitz at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Newport. While the family was growing he became a trucker, a profession he loved for 60 years, taking many loads of cattle to Bassett Sale Barn since he was 12 years old. He also did custom haying, bluegrass farming and worked on trucks in his spare time.
