Bio

Peggy Ruth White Moore was born May 15, 1928, on a farm in Cayote, Texas to Charlie Austin “Jack” White and Carrah Rice White. She attended school in Valley Mills before moving to Corpus Christi in 1941. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1945. Shortly after graduation, she married Donald Lee Bonham. Together they had three daughters. She later attended Del Mar College where she received an associate’s degree to pursue a career in banking. In 1974, she married Dr. John Barcus Moore who had returned to live in Corpus as district superintendent for the Methodist churches in the area. He had been the minister at St. Luke's Methodist in Corpus Christi where Peggy and her family were members before he and his family moved to San Antonio. After his tenure as DS, he was pastor or associate pastor of several churches in Corpus. After Barcus’ retirement, Peggy and Barcus were members of St. Luke’s. In spite of the demands of her job, Peggy was very active in the church. She retired from a successful career in the savings and loan business at 65 and she and Barcus were able to do something they both enjoyed – travel. Barcus passed away in 2001. In 2006, Peggy left Corpus and moved to a retirement village in Schulenburg close to the Bonham family ranch in Weimar. She became active in First United Methodist Church. In 2015, she relocated to an assisted living facility. She passed away at St. David’s in Austin on Thursday, May 19. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Carrol Jean White Harvey; and step-daughter, Cindy Moore Schwierzke. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy, Rhonda, and Brenda, a step-daughter, Beth, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three nephews. Peggy’s remains will be scattered with her husband Barcus’ at the ranch in Weimar and on the coast which they both loved.
