Bio

Harry Donald Ueckert, 93, of Chapman died on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Archer Zion United Methodist Church near Archer. To honor Harry’s wishes cremation has taken place. Burial of ashes will be in the Central City Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Harry was born July 13, 1923 on the family farm in rural Merrick County, near Chapman, to Werner and Minnie (Kurz) Ueckert. Harry grew up near Chapman, attending District 44 and Central City High School. For 89 years, he lived and worked on the same farm, raising livestock and milking. In 2000, he received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award for having the farm in the family for 100 years. He also served for a time as Merrick County Commissioner. On June 1, 1949, Harry married Regena Strong. After her passing he married Elaine Hansen on May 21, 1977. He was a member of Archer Zion United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school, served on many church boards and was a founding member of the Rainbow Class. Harry was baptized at the German Methodist church near Palmer and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Grand Island. He was also a member of the Platt Deutsche and the Eagles Club. Following his retirement, Harry enjoyed traveling and attending polka dances. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Rinda Ueckert of Grand Island and Donald (Debra) Ueckert of St. Libory; step-children, Sandy (Roland) Engel of Wood River, Dennis (Cathy) Hansen of Grand Island and RonaLee Sutton of Republican City; granddaughters, Carly Thom and Ashley Ueckert; step-grandchildren, Trina (Brad) Brown, Locke Engel, Sam Sutton, Natalie Sutton, and Colby Hansen; and a step-great granddaughter, Kailee Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elaine Hansen and both wives, Regena passed February, 1974 and Elaine passed February, 2008.
