Joy Baumgartner was born September 7, 1924, the daughter of Otto Chester ‘Sug’ Frederick and Opal Smith Frederick of Sullivan, Illinois. She married William ‘Bill’ Baumgartner June 20, 1943 at her parents’ home and he preceded her in death February 9, 1996. Surviving are their two sons, William Ken Baumgartner and Frederick Lyle Baumgartner, both of Windsor; three grandchildren Keena Finney and husband Brody of Newman, Illinois, Wade Baumgartner (PhD-JD) and wife Jennifer (PhD) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Wes Baumgartner (PhD-DVM) and wife Denise (CRNA) of Starkville, Mississippi; and five great-grandchildren Abigail Baumgartner (14), Anna Baumgartner (10), James Baumgartner (3), Applee Baumgartner (3) and Vivian Baumgartner (1). Joy was a homemaker and partner to Bill in their 53 years together as the third generation of farmers on the family farm. She supported, assisted and encouraged three generations of her family in the swine genetics businesses of production, sales, and international exporting of live animals, semen, embryos and Specific Pathogen Free animals throughout the world. She gave piano lessons in her home for twenty years. She was a devoted wife to her husband and mother to her sons and grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Bill enjoyed travelling to the 50 states to see the beauty and wonders that God made for all to see. For their 40th anniversary in 1983 she and Bill traveled England and Europe retracing the path Bill took while serving in the Army Combat Engineers during World War II. They spent extra time in Switzerland to enjoy some the most beautiful sights only God could make. Joy was a member of the Highway Church of Christ in Sullivan where her family is dedicated to the church as were her parents Mr. & Mrs. Otto ‘Sug’ Frederick and her grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Noah Smith. Joy truly enjoyed the friendship of many, most of whom have gone ahead of her and greatly appreciated the friendship on display at her 90th birthday celebration last year. News-Progress
