News-Gazette; 31 March 1997; page B2 Madeline Rose Adkins, 80, of Champaign died at 12:30 a.m. today (March 31, 1997) at the home of her daughter in Indianapolis. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. The Rev. Mark Merdian will officiate. There will be no visitation. Mittendorf-Calvert Funeral Home, Champaign Chapel, 2400 Galen Drive, C. is handling arrangements. Mrs. Adkins was born July 7, 1916, at Lyons, Neb., a daughter of Frank and Grace Ehrenreich. She married Robert F. Adkins on Aug. 7, 1943, at Denver. A retired U.S. Air Force major, he died in 1993. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Collins Barteau of Indianapolis, Susan C. Clayton of Pasadena, Calif., and Cherie M. Stark of Norcross, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Adkins was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church at Champaign and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a volunteer at Covenant Medical Center. Madeline was adopted by her Aunt and Uncle between 1920, when she is on the census as Charles and Nellie's child, and 1930, when she was with her adoptive parents.
