"Eleanor Sobota, 94, of Schuyler, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Golden LivingCenter in Schuyler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Heun, with the Rev. Leo Rigatuso officiating. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Wednesday at Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler with a 3 p.m. rosary-guild and 7 p.m. rosary-parish and knights. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Eleanor was born Aug. 25, 1919, in Schuyler to Frank and Albina (Severyn) Svec. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1936. On Aug. 7, 1940, she married Emil J. Sobota at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. They lived and farmed in the Heun area until moving to Schuyler in 1976. Eleanor loved to cook and bake (especially kolaches) for her family, embroidering, playing cards with special friends and any game with her grandchildren. She was always very supportive of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, goals and dreams. Eleanor could always be found praying the Rosary. She was active in Meals on Wheels, an officer and member of the Alegent Hospital Auxiliary, Lifeline Installer, 4-H assistant leader, Extension Club member, Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Heun, the Altar Society and Guild and was the church organist for 33 years. She and Emil received the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award and were recognized as the KC Family of the year. Eleanor is survived by two daughters, Mary (Greg) Hogel of Schuyler and Ann (Jerry) Leever of Omaha; three sons, John (Sharon), Emil (Donna) and Joseph (Fran) Sobota, all of Schuyler; sister, Joanne Kasal of Columbus; daughter-in-law Jean Sobota of Columbus; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil J. Sobota (11-2-2006); son, Frank Sobota; granddaughter, Holly Sobota; three infant grandsons; and sister and brother-in-law, Arlene (Alvin) Wachal and brother-in-law Jim Kasal.
