It is with great sadness that the family of Hugh Garrison (Garry) Burkhart announces his death on Sunday, October 23, 2016, in Granbury, Texas, at the age of 59, from complications of a long and perplexing illness. He was the beloved husband of Lynn Izard Burkhart, his childhood sweetheart with whom he reconnected later in life. Together, they lived joyfully over the last ten years. Garry was born in Mineola, Long Island, New York, on July 21, 1957, and grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the son of the late Hugh Reginald Burkhart and Ruby Nell "Nelson" Ivey Burkhart. Beloved brother of Carol B. Stallings of Solana Beach, CA; Patricia B. Smith of Ferndale, WA; Deborah I. Burkhart of Bloomington, IN, and beloved brother-in-law Patrick Edinger of Solana Beach, CA and Earl Luetzelschwab of Bloomington, IN. He is also survived by loving in-laws, Betty and Henry Izard of Marietta, GA, and his sister-in-law, Kay Izard of Roswell, GA. He will also be fondly remembered by his godmother, Aunt Mary Ann Chambers of Houston Texas, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. He leaves behind many dear friends, including Paul Coffinger and David Tokey. His cherished pet, Girl Kitty, will miss him terribly. Garry worked in the oil and gas business for many years, most recently as a Permit Coordinator. An earlier career in sales and marketing took him to almost every state in the country. Following his death messages have been received from friends all over the country saying how Garry had helped them in one way or another. He possessed a spirit of generosity that touched many people. Garry loved to fish, play golf, and was a celebrated grillmaster famous for his skills with a barbecue pit and in the kitchen. A meal at Garry's table was always a delicious and soul-satisfying culinary event. He was generous and hard-working, and also possessed a great sense of humor and wit. He had the ability to make people laugh. We will all miss you Garry! But we will hold on to our special memories of you. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
