William R. "Bill" Karkoska Jr., 52, of Bay City died Christmas Day, December 25, 2006, following a sudden illness. He was born June 23, 1954, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Bill and Anna Zbranek Karkoska. Bill was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County, a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City and worked construction as a welder in the Freeport and Old Ocean area. Survivors include his sister and her husband, Barbara and Oscar Bunge of Wharton; his very dear friend and confidant, Beverly Stroeman; nephew, Alan Todd Slaughter, and great-nephew, Brandon Slaughter, both of San Antonio. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2006, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Mass will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2006, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. His family from Austin and friends from Bay City will serve as pallbearers.
