Elmer Babel, age 92, of Columbus, died Monday, October 24, 2016 in Schuyler, Nebraska. Elmer was born December 3, 1923 near St. Bernard, Nebraska to Max and Barbara (Hutchmacher) Babel. He received his education at. St. Bernard Catholic School. He served in the United States Army in the Philippines from June 20, 1944 until May 11, 1946. He returned home and worked in Omaha for a period of time. Elmer married Leona Gross in Earling, Iowa. They lived and farmed in the Humphrey, Nebraska area. In 1965 they moved to Columbus.
