September 1950 – Passage. John H. Miller, 67, theater man and civic worker, died at his home from having a chronic form of silicosis Saturday at 2:40 a.m.. He was born October 29, 1882, at American Fork, the son of the late Joseph and Emma Paxman Miller. He married Melissa Openshaw of Santaquin, Utah, and she later died. He later married Cora Danielson of Heber, who survives him. Mr. Miller was an active member of the L.D.S. church, serving as a missionary in Virginia and West Virginia. He served as a member of the bishopric in Heber and also as superintendent of the Utah stake Sunday School at Heber. He was superintendent of the American Fork Second Ward Sunday School for 16 years. He served as a city councilman in Heber for six years and as a city councilman in American Fork for four years, was a past Lions club president and active member of the Utah county welfare board for several years, and at the time of his death was a director of American Fork Chamber of Commerce. He served as general chairman of the Poultry day parades for two years. Mr. Miller was owner and manager of the Ideal theater at Heber for 13 years prior coming to American Fork, and at the time of his death was owner of the Miller theaters in American Fork, Pleasant Grove and Lehi. The new Coral theater in American Fork opened just 10 days prior to his death. He is also survived by two sons, J. Clifford Miller, Lehi, and Keith D. Miller of Pleasant Grove; five daughters, Rowena Boren, Helper; Verda Fagan, Elaine Howes, Cora Marie and Marilyn Miller of American Fork; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Joseph W. Miller, American Fork, and James A Miller, Salt Lake City; three sisters, Miss Jenette Miller, American Fork; Mrs. C.. O. Strong, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. George McDaniel, Alpine. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Second ward LDs chapel by Haws F. Durfee, bishop of American Fork Seventh ward. Friends may call at the family residence, 240 W. Main, Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in American Fork city cemetery under direction of Anderson and Sons mortuary.
