Michael Patrick Ballenger, age 51, of Richmond, Virginia, died October 6, 2016 at his home in Lansing Michigan. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday October 26, 2016 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Dolefield, Drive, North Chesterfield, VA. 23235. Interment will be 2:30PM Wednesday October 26, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA. Michael was the first born child to Earl and Catherine Ballenger of Norfolk. He was raised in Chesterfield where he attended Monacan High school. Michael's lifelong passion of music began in Chesterfield where he was in the band The Survivors with several close friends. Throughout his life he played guitar and piano and wrote songs. He played in churches and private establishments in Virginia, Texas, Missouri and Michigan. Michael moved to Missouri and married his first wife, Sherilynn Gross (deceased). There he became a respected social worker in the Kansas City area. In 2013 Michael moved to Lansing where he met his fiancee Lisa Melius. Michael is survived by a sisterc Laura Leigh Brown; nieces and nephews, Christopher, Jeremy, Joshua, Andrew and Cecelia; an aunt and uncle, Agnes and Raymond Dozier of Norfolk; cousins Beverly, Chris and Jennifer; fiancee, Lisa Melius. Also survived by his second family who raised him after the death of his parents, Rick Andrews and Dee (Andrews) Lonski, Mike and Dana. The Sharp Funeral Homes www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
