OBITUARIES FOR JULY 7 - 12, 2003 Observer, The (La Grande, OR) | 28 July 2003 Formerly of Elgin 1908-2003 Emma Evangeline Buschke, 95, of Forest Grove and formerly of Elgin died July 9. A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Elgin Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Elgin United Methodist Church Community Hall. Fuiten, Rose and Hoyt Funeral Home, Forest Grove, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Buschke was born May 4, 1908, to Earl and Emma Cruikshank Phillips in Elgin. She graduated from Elgin High School, the Oregon Normal School in Monmouth and Eastern Oregon College. She married Fred A. Buschke on January 4, 1933, in Dayton, Washington. The couple lived in Elgin until 1967 when they moved to Troutdale. Her husband died in January 1985. She moved to Forest Grove in 1997. She taught in elementary schools for 34 years in Elgin, Heppner and Sandy. She retired from teaching in 1974. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Oregon Education Association, the National Education Association, the Order of Eastern Star Blue Mountain Chapter, the Rebekah Lodge and the Gresham Garden Club. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, crafts, following the Blazers and playing cards, especially pinochle. Survivors include children and their spouses, Patricia and John Williford of Kirkland, Washington, and Phyllis and Don Anson of Forest Grove; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Douglas Phillips of Oregon City; two sisters, Mildred Kennedy of Elgin and Mina Burnett of Springfield, and other relatives.
